Kenya
Going to Kenya has always been an ambition of mine. Kenya is one of those
Boys Own adventure stories that I had been brought up with; safaris, lions
and elephants, masai tribesman, in fact a whole cornucopia of ingredients
that whet the appetite even before the plane has landed.
Before I explain about the cricket, I must take a moment or two to thank
Rhino Safaris and MRI for all their help in the organised safaris that we
enjoyed. From Nairobi we visited the lodges in Samburu in the North,
Treetops in the Aberdares in Central Kenya, and the wondrous and evocative
Maara in the South. Our journey finished in Amboseli, at the foot of the
mountain better known as Kilamanjaro.
Cricket-wise, we were the guests of the Mombasa Cricket Club in down town
chaotic Mombasa. The cricket was far less dramatic than the city itself. The
host team was captained a certain Mr Senanyaka (or a spelling similar to
this). Those who recognise the name (if not the spelling) will remember him
as an opening batsman for Sri Lanka some five to ten years ago. I thank him
and the membership of the Mombasa Sports Club for hosting the game and their
deep generosity toward the charitable collection.
